My my My my

Thanks for agreeing to coach this year in the Lynnfield Youth Soccer program. Without you we wouldn't be able to put together such a fun experience for the kids. We encourage you to explore the other resources in the Coaches section of the LYSC web site to learn more and help you in your role as a youth soccer coach. We'll continue to build out the information here, so check back to see what's new.

1. Practice Plans - Detailed, age-appropriate information specifically for coaches. Developed by the NE Revolution & MA Youth Soccer.
2. Coaching Classes - Both live and online courses for soccer coaches. FULLY reimbursed by LYSC for successful completion.
3. Field Availability - The pdf's that show you the who, when, where of U10 & above practices.
4. The Coaching Manual - A comprehensive site with videos, practices plans, progressions and more.

Coach Development
Philosophically, LYSC understands the importance of having good, strong coaches, who are well trained and have the proper perspective (on soccer and life) to best teach our young players how to play soccer.

LYSC pays for all its coaches to get licenses. There are many levels of licensing in soccer, and we encourage our coaches to obtain their licenses to the level they are coaching. See the "Coaching Classes" section of the site for more information.

Additionally, LYSC contracts with the New England Revolution Academy, to train our players and coaches during the season. The Revolution runs the clinics for our U-8 & U10 players, holds pre-season coaching clinics for our U-6 and U-8 coaches, runs in-season clinics for coaches at all the traveling team levels, holds specialty clinics, such as goal keeper clinics, and runs the independent evaluations (tryouts) for LYSC. The Revolution are also always available via email if coaches have specific questions throughout the season.

On top of this, we are also utilizing more this year Mark Vermont, coach of the Lynnfield girls varsity soccer team, and Brent Monroe, coach of the boys varsity soccer team to help run a goalie clinic and work with some of the U-12 and U-14 travel teams.

LYSC coaches are selected based on the following criteria:

  • Past experience
  • License level
  • Coaching style
  • Demeanor
  • Ability to teach age-level appropriate techniques and tactics
  • Ability to have fun while challenging players
  • Timely return of player evaluation
  • Attendance at coaches’ development clinics
  • Willingness to bring his/her team to tournaments
  • Willingness to coach indoor soccer
